Training Week 3

Hi All,
Review of training this week.

Small sided goalies.
all these goalkeepers started with a quick warm up with goalies exchanging footballs in the air and not dropping the football, this was done in a area of approx 10x10.

Once the warm up was completed we moved on to the correct diving position using different types of serving, for instance some keepers had low shots to save some keepers had shots that bounced along the ground and other keepers had high shots to save.

The most important parts of this exercise was to ensure that All Goalkeepers kept their body weight coming forward with their hands in FRONT of their body and they should get their Step in to make sure that they are in Line of the ball. Most of the keepers can now understand how important this is.

To end the session we did a few close range shots asking the keepers to use the correct catching technique.

Eleven a side goalies.
We actually did the same warm up routine as the smaller goalies but we added a few high catching techniques in there.

The first part of this session was dominated by Set Position and Quick Feet movements, this was pretty intense and was 3 servers actually shooting at a goalkeeper.

These goalkeepers all understand that you have to be completely still and hands in the ready position as soon as a striker  intends to shoot.getting up the line and into line was also practised.

The middle session was shot stopping and diving using the correct techniques, this involved close range shooting from the left and right and making sure the goalkeepers parried the ball into a safe area.

The last part of the session was a collection of all the above with goalkeepers trying to replicate what had been taught earlier.

Barnet Azzurri can be assured that these Goalkeepers are working extremely hard in these sessions and I hope the benefits will be seen very soon, any Barnet Goalkeepers who not yet come along I would love for you to come and see what you are missing!!
