Well done to all the boys for last nights session.
The goalkeeping session was based upon 3 different areas last night.
1. Handling
2. Fitness.
3. Diving left a right.
After a short warm up the boys went into a Handling session involving them throwing the ball to each other and giving a instruction on which technique to use when catching the ball.i.e. W or Cup.They did this from a short distance with quick commands to get their hands moving quickly.
The middle part of the session involved them with moving from side to side and backwards and forwards in the SIT UP position,the servers then threw footballs for the keepers to catch while in the SIT UP position this is extremely hard work but will give the boys the strong stomach Core they are going to need when playing in goal.
The last part of the session involved all the goalkeepers being on their knees and diving to stop an imaginary ball they dived left and right with the basis being that their body weight was always going forward and the back arm being Parallel with the floor,we then introduced a football into the exercise with the goalies being asked to stop the ball with their back hand.The diving technique we used was HIP first Shoulder second and try to land softly therefore the ball would not Pop Out and create a chance for the opposing team.
Well done to you all again and I look forward to seeing the goalies again on Thursday 4 November.
