Hi All,
Last weeks session started with a good warm up which included some high pace running over a short distance including forward, backward and sideways movement.
After our warm up the goalies got down to some real nitty gritty which involved them diving full length to their left a right, this was from a standing position and was a progression from them kneeling down which we did last time.we did not have a football in place for them to dive at as this was introduced at a later stage.
Firstly, the goalies had to dive at a cone taking the cone off the floor as if they were making a save. After some time we progressed to them diving full length and attacking the line of the ball. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
To finish this session i challenged the goalies to see if they could make 4 consecutive dives through a zig-zag course which they had to both dive at a ball as well as the cones diving in the right way which was hip, shoulder and then arm landing softly so that the ball never POPPED OUT! this was very difficult for them But the Goalies had a real good try,if we can succeed in them getting this right it will be a fantastic achievement for the club as well as the boys as i don't see many goals being conceded.
My intention is to continue with diving sessions as the ground is nice and soft at the moment.
Hope to see you all Thursday evening,
Paul Johnson
